Monica Kennedy
Choreographer
- Monica Kennedy started dancing at age 3 under the direction of Kim Haight at Studio 1 Performing Arts. She has training in tap, ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and lyrical. She was a member of the Star South Dance Company for 10 years where she won many regional and national awards at dance competitions. She has danced several lead roles in Studio 1 Productions including "Snow Queen" and "Sugar Plum Fairy" from Nutcracker, "Scarecrow" from the Wizard of Oz, "Lilac Fairy" from Sleeping Beauty, and "Candlestick" from Beauty and the Beast. She has also performed at Gospel Superfest 2013, at "Jazz on Tap", "Ballet Fest", "Atlanta Hawks" half time shows, and the "Carnival Cruise Line". She has trained at many dance workshops and conventions under master choreographers such as Jason Kalish of the "Tap Dogs", Casey Noblett, Devon Raines, Brian Friedman of "So You Think You Can Dance", Marty Dew from "You Got Served", Rosanne Walters of "Dance Masters of America", and Tammy Everhart, as well as spent her summers dancing at the "Georgia Ballet" for several years. Monica started teaching when she was 12 years old; she first became an assistant instructor and trained for 4 years under Kim Haight, and then started teaching on her own when she was 16. Monica is currently a teacher/choreographer for several schools across metro Atlanta such as "Tayo Reed’s Performing Arts Center", Creative Movement and Dance, "Kidz n Step", and "Studio 1 Performing Arts". Monica also is a guest judge and choreographer for company auditions, as well as a guest teacher / choreographer at various summer camps, and workshops throughout metro Atlanta and abroad.
