Aduke Aremu

- Professor Aduke Aremu grew up in New York City, New York.
- Family migrated from Savannah, Georgia where her uncle founded Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and a relative was President of Savannah State College and her maternal grandfather was one of the founders of the oldest Black Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia.
- Studied Theatre and Mass Communications at Hunter College. The College of New Rochelle and New York University.
- Received a B.A. and M.S. from the City University/Hunter College, a PD (Professional Diploma) in Advanced Education from the College of New Rochelle and a PhD (abd) from New York University.
- Original Founder and Powerful Guru of Black Children's Theatre in America "The Harlem Children's Theatre Company Ensemble of New York.
- Plays produced in the United States, Germany, England, France, Nigeria, Ghana, Bermuda, Jamaica, Barbados and Tanzania. (Aremu has written 10 children plays; 3 adult plays, 2 children books and 2 books of poetry.)
- Children plays have been produced and presented at: The John F. Kennedy Center, The Public Theatre with Joe Papp, The Apollo Theatre, The Negro Ensemble Company, The Billie Holiday Theatre, Brooklyn Academy of Music, 42nd Street Theatre Row,( 20 years),Town Hall, The Hudson Guild Theatre, The Gene Franklin Theatre, and Lincoln Center.
- Won an Audelco Theatre award for her play "The Liberation of Mother Goose" and the Children's Theatre Series at The Apollo Theatre.
- Arts Commissioner for Governor John Cuomo Sr.
- Congressional Awards from Retired Congressman Edolphus Towns (Chair of the Ways and Means Committee) and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke of Brooklyn.
- Playwright/Producer award from the Nigerian Consul General of New York.
- Producer awards from the Department of Culture of Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados.
- Funded 55 children and adults to Festac/Nigeria: artistic team included International Director-Reggie Life and world renowned dancer John Parks.
- Writings documented and research by Professor Mort Clarke at Westchester County College; Dr. Jacqui Scott / The University of Wisconsin ; Dr. Nellie McCaslin / New York University.
- Produced 1st Black Theatre Conference at New York University with Garland Thompson Sr, Professor Earl Davis; Dr. Robert Taylor.
- Produced 2nd Black Theatre Conference at Medgar Evers College.
- Faculty Member at Essex County College, Medgar Evers College, William Patterson College, Hunter College, The College of New Rochelle, New York City Technical College, and Mercy College.
- Received a grant from The Bill and Melinda Gates Award for : The International Arts Business High School of Brooklyn, New York.
- Created/Funded "The Star" Middle School in the South Bronx.
- Presently living in Atlanta, Georgia and Brooklyn, New York working with Otis Sallid (Black Nativity), and Abdel Salaam (Forces of Nature).
- Aduke has worked with George Faison ("The Wiz"), Joseph Walker,(" The River Niger") Joseph Papp( The New York Shakespeare Festival) ,Voza Rivers, Lillias White,("Fela" and "Rent" –Broadway) the late Gilbert Moses ,Sheryl Lee Ralph,("Dream Girls") Reggie Life, the late Glenda Dickerson, and Peter Moore( "The Lion King") to name a few.
- Currently owns two production companies in Atlanta and New York.
- Producer of the National Talk Radio Show "The Princess Chronicles" on WXRP Metro-Atlanta.
- Presently Associate Producer in Atlanta and Brooklyn for Black On Purpose TV with CEO/Founder/Music Producer - Michael Campbell.
- Aduke Aremu was honored to be the Honorary Co-Chair of the 41st Annual Audelco Awards in New York City for 2013.
