DeWayne Jamar Brown is a sought after Contemporary / Hip Hop choreographer and performance artist from Decatur, GA. With over 15 years of professional dance training and performance experience, he is currently a Choreographer for ViZion Dance Inc., a "Broadway worthy" dance and theatrical 501-(c)(3) humanitarian ensemble based in Atlanta, GA. His creative leadership has been instrumental in the organization receiving accolades such as "America’s Best Inspirational Dance Company", recognition as one of the Top Ten Dance Ministries in America (by Dance Ministry Magazine) for 3 consecutive years as well as becoming home of the first hip hop inspirational dance company to grace the stage of Harlem’s world famous Apollo Theater. Under his directorship, the company was also selected as featured artists for: the Global and Humanitarian World Summit, the International Association For Blacks in Dance Conference (Los Angeles), Selma March 50th Anniversary Celebration, Howard University Reunion Convocation with Naomi King (Washington, DC), Martin Luther King 88th Commemorative Birthday Celebration (The Historic Ebenezer Church/ Atlanta), MLK Memorial Dedication Celebration, Smithsonian Southern Museum of Civil War Inaugural Black History Celebration, TV Syndicated Allstate Gospel Superfest (opening act), Trinity Girls Network Lifetime Presidential Awards, North Charleston Arts Festival, The Superbowl, The National African American Honors Program Conference (Morehouse College), "Paradise on Earth" Asian Dance Festival and much more.
He has training in various techniques to include; Dunham, Ailey, Fosse, Graham, Horton and has had the privilege to train with Debbie Allen, Boogoloo Shrimp ("Turbo" in the movie "Breaking"), Breakdance pioneers, Orko Romero and Honey Rockwell, as well as various other notable innovative choreographers and pioneers of many genres of dance.
DeWayne's artistic prowess as a performing artist has led to numerous dance collaborations with international artists such as: Superstar koto player Yumi Kurosawa (Elevate Atlanta), Eve Hao Chinese Dance Academy (hip hop instructor), and with various world renowned hip hop artists at Rockwell Dance Academy (directed by breakdance legend, Honey Rockwell). He also served as Creative Director/ Lead Choreographer and Assistant Music Producer for "The New Legacy: Reclaiming The Dream" musical production (tribute to the life and times of Pres. Barack Obama) which debuted at the Carter Center, received a proclamation from the state of Georgia and had pieces curated at the Univ. of Massachusetts (Boston), (Directed by Emmy/ Peabody award winner, Wyatt Jackson; www.newlegacyusa.com ). In addition, he was featured in Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" movie, BET's "A Time To Laugh", and has been featured in numerous videos for internationally renowned recording artists. Moreover, as a talented and versatile character actor, he also served as Mr. Sixx, the dancing mascot of Six Flags Amusement Park as well as a host of other costumed characters.
A tireless, advocate for the positive mental , physical, and spiritual development in youth and the global community, DeWayne is also a certified fitness trainer that has successfully blended a unique fusion of Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop and Pilates to create his signature "Groovology" dance style, class and dance/fitness video series (which he taught at various institutes of higher learning). In addition, he served as Creative Director for ViZion Dance,, Inc's " Day of Respect" Community Workshops and Awards Gala (presented in collaboration with The Dunham Institute, Inc.), played an active part in the creation of the community dance coalition based at Spelman College (provides educational seminars based on the "business of dance" to students and the community), and finds time to elevate the self esteem of youth by coaching a community majorette dance competition team.
